For many teenagers, cooking independently can initially feel daunting. Our classes provide a welcoming environment where it’s completely fine to ask questions, make mistakes and try something new.

With patient, practical guidance, we’ll help students become increasingly comfortable preparing food for themselves. The aim is simple: for every teenager to leave feeling more capable, more confident and proud of what they’ve created.

The Lincolnshire Baking Barn is all about enjoying food, learning something new and having a great time doing it. Classes are intentionally friendly and approachable, without the pressure of a formal classroom.

Teenagers can work alongside others of a similar age, develop new skills, enjoy their creations and hopefully discover a genuine enthusiasm for cooking. No previous cooking or baking experience is required.

What They’ll Learn

Every class is hands-on, with teenagers preparing, cooking and baking for themselves under friendly guidance.

Depending on the course or session, they’ll develop skills including:

  • Preparing and cooking meals from scratch
  • Baking cakes, biscuits, breads and sweet treats
  • Knife skills and safe food preparation
  • Weighing and measuring ingredients accurately
  • Understanding recipes and cooking methods
  • Using kitchen equipment safely and confidently
  • Food hygiene and kitchen organisation
  • Understanding ingredients, flavours and seasoning
  • Planning simple, balanced meals
  • Presentation and finishing techniques
  • Cleaning and organising as they cook
  • Working independently and as part of a group
